Momma Lucy was incredibly strong-minded and didn’t let anyone ruffle her feathers. She smoked cigarettes and drank scotch daily up until her death at 96. Once when I was a young child, I pointed out that cigarettes caused cancer, and she told me that everyone is going to die some day any way. Might as well enjoy yourself as much as possible. That always stuck with me.
