The Pacific Region Through AI Eyes and Ears
Overview
The Pacific Region Through AI Eyes and Ears is an immersive media installation combining large-scale AI-generated imagery with spatial soundscapes. The project was commissioned for the “Future Ports in California” track of the APEC conference and exhibited at the NTT Innovation Center in San Francisco. It showcases how advanced computational tools can reinterpret cultural, geographic, and architectural motifs across the Pacific region.
Concept & Experience
The installation consists of 24 panoramic 8K images paired with original sound compositions. Together, they create a 360-degree environment that blends documentary observation with AI-driven interpretation. Visitors move through projected landscapes drawn from cities and coastlines across the Pacific Rim—each scene transformed through a hybrid process of machine learning, visual design, and spatial audio.
Approach
The work uses AI models to analyze and reimagine visual references from the Pacific region, generating atmospheric tableaux that highlight regional beauty, complexity, and diversity. Soundscapes were crafted to echo each location’s environmental rhythm, creating an experience that feels simultaneously cinematic and contemplative.
Impact
By pairing high-resolution computational imagery with immersive audio, the project invites viewers to consider how emerging technologies can deepen cross-cultural understanding. It demonstrates a new way of experiencing place—one that merges human perspective with machine interpretation to evoke both familiarity and wonder.
